SUMMARY:
Mikayla doesn't want much: just to rock out to her favorite band, become the next Kwiki Stop video gaming champion, and keep her Q-tip habit under control. What she does want is the sight of the sudden inexplicable dark auras around everyone to stop. Problem is, those auras are demons and Mikayla is the last trait holder with the power to ban them. Which is a total buzz kill.
To make matters worse, the town folk of Sulphur Springs don't look the same, and her classmates are a little dark in the eyes. There are murders, suicides, reckless skinny-dipping, gratuitous use of Q-tips, and newfound powers that Mikayla must learn to control.
Her past becomes present when a shape-shifter tells her what her true identity is, and how to keep the demons of Hell from nipping at her Converse. Through him she'll discover who to trust, who to kiss, and how valuable her abilities are to the right beings. Because the evils of Hell aren't staying down without a fight...
Or without her soul. -Goodreads.com

REViEW:
Okay, I have to start out by saying that it has been a few weeks since I finished reading this book. I usually like to review it right after I read it, but that didn't really work out time wise with me. Oh well. On the review... Watched's plot was pretty good. It was intriguing and very unique. I really enjoyed the whole premise of this book. My biggest complaint about this entire book was the language. It had a lot of ban language in it and all of it was unnecessary. If swearing bother you, this is not the book for you.

The characters were realistic. I liked Mikayla and her attitude and her personality. I also loved her relationship with Lucas. It wasn't the typical "head over heels" relationship that you usually see in YA. I absolutely adored their romance! Overall, I really enjoyed the character, they were lifelike and very entertaining. Their dialogue added a lot of depth to the characters and was exactly the kind of conversations that I would have with my friends (minus the talks about demons). It was very enjoyable to read about character that had quirks (like Mikayla's q-tip obsession) and had difficulties.

I don't remember much about the ending, so it must've not left that much of an impression. *Goes back to re-read ending.* The ending is a major cliffhanger. There's still a lot to explain in another book. The ending was good but it wasn't as big as I thought it would be. The ending is surprising but I thought it would be built up a little more.

My Favorite Part: The characters and their romance. They were very interesting and I loved being able to get inside their heads.

ALL iN ALL:
Do I recommend this book? Sure, it wasn't my favorite book, but it was different and realistic.
Will I be reading the sequel? Probably. (If there is one.) I'm unclear if there will be a sequel but I think that there will because of the major cliffhanger. I will fill in the series info at the beginning of this review once more is released about the series.

Thank you all for reading! I love reading your comments, they make my day!

  1. I just recently heard of this book, so I'm not sure what the consensus is on it. I love that your honest about it though! The cover is really pretty, but I might just wait a bit before I pick this one up. I think the characters and romance would have to be the driving force (like you said). Sorry the ending was a bit disappointing, but hopefully the sequel will be better! I always find that books in a series normally get better as the story progresses!
